Melchor “Mel” Abrego Jr., age 71., late of Whiting, Indiana, passed away April 19, 2021.  Loving husband of Mela Abrego (nee Garcia) for 28 years.  Loving father of Kimberly (Michael) Pena and Brandy (Travis) Garcia-Aguirre. Beloved step-father of Leonor Robles, Lov (Jimmy) Robles-Pacheco, and Lucy Robles.  Cherished grandfather of Austin, Evan, Gavin, Caleb, Miranda, Jimmy Jr., Mia, Lilah and Julian.  Devoted son of the late Melchor Abrego Sr. and the late Magda Abrego (nee Romeroll). Dearest brother of Magda (Pasquale) Garcia, Blanca (Michael) Benegas, Gilbert Abrego, Patricia (Steve) Vega, and Edward (Diane) Abrego.  Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Mel was a veteran of the U.S. Army – Vietnam War.  He was a very active veteran and member of the Disabled American Veterans Post #17.  Mel was an avid Chicago Bears fan and was truly cherished by his entire family and by his friends. He will be remembered for being kind, generous and funny. He was a good dad, grandfather and friend.  Visitation Thursday, April 22, 2021 2-8 pm.  Funeral Services Friday, April 23, 2021 at 9:15 am from the Elmwood Chapel 11200 S. Ewing Ave. Chicago to St. John the Baptist Church.  Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 am.  Committal with Military Honors will follow at  St. John-St. Joseph Cemetery.  For more information 773-731-2749 www.elmwoodchapel.com

To all members and friends of Hammond, IN DAV Chapter #17 Glenn F. Renicker our member Melchor Abrago fell off a ladder. He fractured his skull. He had to have Surgery to stop the bleeding. He is at the University of Chicago Hospital.  

Please keep Melchior and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
