History – In 2012 93 members of our local National Guard the 713th Combat Engineer Company nicknamed the Sappers based in Valparaiso, IN were deployed to Afghanistan. While deployed there where two combat incidents where 6 our soldiers were killed and one was severely wounded. This has been a grave loss for the all members of the 713th and their families more importantly for the Gold Star Families left behind.
Event – These brave families came to the National Guard Unit and the Local Committee for the Folds of Honor and asked if we could work together to create a 5k run in memory of these brave young men that have given so much for our country. Last year we expanded this to include a Motorcycle Ride ending at the start of the 5K run. We are honored to join and support this Run and Ride and create an evening of respect and joyous remembrance of our fallen but not forgotten Heroes.
We are asking the community to join with the Soldiers of the 713th as they lead this run and ride to remember their brothers. You can watch the Motorcycles come in, run 5K , walk 3K or just cheer on the participants as we remember our fallen Heroes.
Reason for attending – The Gold Star Families and the 713th want to remember our Heroes so that their Sacrifice is never forgotten. Let’s all come out and show that the communities of NWI care and appreciate our brave young people serving to protect our freedom.
